Each level ends with a practice exam modeled on the Goethe and telc certificates, so you know you’re ready before you move on.
Introduce yourself, order in a café and ask for directions.
Practise A1Rent a flat, see a doctor and talk about your weekend.
Practise A2Get through a job interview, write a formal email and tell a story in the past.
Practise B1Lead a meeting, weigh pros and cons and follow the news.
Practise B2Every topic from A1 to B2, grouped by the part of the sentence it changes. Topics keep their German names, the ones you’ll meet in textbooks and exams.
German nouns come in three genders, and the article is part of the word. So every noun here is colored by its gender, and each color belongs to one of our friends. Learn the word with its friend, and the article comes with it.
Masculine. Blue, like Gus’s scarf.
Feminine. Gold, like Dung’s petals.
Neuter. Green, like Eddi’s scarf.
In the plural, every noun takes die. Dung likes company.
Words come back for review just before you’d forget them, starting with the ones you need first in a new country: registering your address, renting a flat, health insurance and work.
Select a word to hear it.
Gus, Dung and Eddi are starting a new life in a German city, one level at a time. Every line has audio, and you decide when to see the translation.
